Tips for Grant Writers
 (Debra Ward, CFRE Debor21727@aol.com):

  1. Grants should be written to fund new projects or initiatives that meet an identified need with specific outcomes and related to student achievement.

  2. The identified need must be supported by documentation.

  3. Allow enough time for other people to get needed information for the proposal to you.

  4. Know your district's policies and procedures for submitting a grant proposal.

  5. Realize that politics sometimes play a role in the award of grants.

  6. Make sure your business office is aware of your proposal submission. You do not want there to be any surprises upon notification of your grant award.

  7. Research the web for funding sources and keep your eyes and ears open to possible grants.

  8. Build a network of grant writing colleagues.
